A Place to Retreat
A place to Retreat looks to bring natural, meandering paths into the heart of the urban environment. The park will mimic four main aspects of the natural environment to provide relief from the monotony of the surrounding neighborhood. A riverbed with flowing water and natural stone, leading towards the forest floor, a section under the
tree canopy where one can walk between the trunks of the trees and look upwards, to see light filtering through the leaves. The tree top sections provides a moment of rest, seating amounts the tree canopy, looking out across the neighborhood treetops, and onwards toward the concrete jungle of Centre City.
The waterfall completes the dynamic cycle of the urban oasis, as water once again falls into the riverbed, and the natural cycle starts again. The place is space for play, exploration and reflection inspired by the distant natural environment, in the highly contrasting confines of a city formed in the industrial revolution.
