A New Dawn Reconstruction Center

Project Description: Residential | Civic

Year: 2021

University: Curtin University School of Design and the Built Environment

Location: Universal – North Philadelphia used for specific context

This two-part project explores re-densification of declining inner city and urban fringe neighbourhoods, while trying to avoid the negative aspects of gentrification. Envisioned as a community lead program, the project would begin with the construction of a community center specifically designed to

cater to existing and new residents that would like to self-manage their renovation or building projects. This first generation of residents would then take over stewardship of the community center, passing on their ideas and expertise to the next generation of residents.
